Dr Eggman. Eternally underrated.

ALL HAIL THE EGGMAN EMPIRE!

Game Dr Eggman is awesome. Plain and simple.

Very distinct from his extremely overrated and in-name-only SatAM incarnation -

He's such an awesome combination of whimsical buffoon and great villain. He can be comical and silly but also daunting and malicious and his cleverness is downright diabolical.

He knows how to manipulate Sonic's arrogance and tendency to jump into situations blindly as evidenced by what he accomplished in Sonic Adventure 2 and Unleashed. He held all the aces during the fake emerald plan because he already knew what they were up to and he exploited Sonic's confidence in the plan, coming this close to killing him. In Unleashed, he allowed Sonic to follow him to that cannon and then to belittle him so that he was distracted long enough for him to snatch the emeralds away from him, turn him into the Werehog and free Dark Gaia from the earth.

Whilst he is perfectly eager to fire missiles at densely populated cities when he's at his wit's end, you can tell that he doesn't want to win like that because senseless destruction and killing is very beneath him, it'd bring no satisfaction to his genius mind. Destroying half of the moon was an example and he wouldn't have gone through with destroying the planet with it because it'd go against his desire to establish the Eggman Empire on it. His actions such as imprisoning small animals inside his badnik's and capturing and converting Wisps are a means to an end rather than being accomplished for the sake of being evil. Certainly his actions are cruel but they're not cruel for cruelty's sake.

His sheer degree of knowledge regarding his field and his robotic creations are incredible. This man designed and constructed two Death Eggs, the metallic nightmare known as Metal Sonic, the interstellar amusement park in Colours and the fortresses and all of those marvelous boss robots you see throughout the series as well as those charming Badnik's.

He also has depth regarding his reasons for becoming a scientist, wanting to out-do his beloved grandfather. His fixation with attention, fame and the media spotlight and the wrong way in which he goes about things is what sets him apart from Gerald who wanted to make people happy through the power of science. But even then Eggman has interesting and moralistic traits such as his feminism, romanticism and his respect for even his arch enemy Sonic.

Whatsmore, he's appealing because of his kiddishness. He loves making exuberant theme parks that echo his madness and love of fun fantastically such as Eggmanland and Circus Park. And need I mention the fun room that's a part of his living quarters on-board the Egg Carrier with ride-on Egg Mobiles?
