Do I need to repeat that Icon? READ THIS BEFORE YOU COMMENT PLEASE! This is a PRO-AMY and PRO-SALLY stamp that irons out misconceptions regarding these two characters and their relation to canon and continuity.

This stamp serves three purposes;

- It serves to stop the rampant hating on Sally because of wrongful labelling of her as an "unofficial character".
- It serves to stop the exultation of characters above others because of their comparitive seniority (Amy IS NOT SUPERIOR TO SALLY BECAUSE SHE CAME FIRST)
- And it serves to educate people about different Sonic continuities and the incarnations of characters strictly canon to each one since a lot of fans are completely clueless as to the concept of "canon" and "continuity" and alternate continuity incarnations of characters.

Just to set terminology correct;

Princess Sally Alicia Acorn - The Squirrel-Chipmunk/Ground Squirrel princess character as depicted in Sonic SatAM and Archie. A distinct character that is not one and the same as game Ricky/"Sally Acorn", AoStH Sally from the Christmas Special and Spinball Sally.

Ricky - The name of multiple brown Squirrels that inhabit various zones in the SEGA Sonic game series and who are frequent victims of Dr Eggman, placed inside his robots and capsules. Not one entity but multiple ones who happen to all share the species name of "Ricky".

"Sally Acorn" - SEGA of America's name for Game Ricky, completely unrelated to SatAM/Archie Sally.

Amy Rose - The Pink Hedgehog character who is Sonic's reluctant love interest in the games. A distinct character that is not one and the same as Shogakuken manga Amy, Archie Amy, Fleetway Amy and Sonic X Amy.

Canon - Events that are generally considered to have happened in a distinct continuity. I.e Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Genesis/Mega Drive happened in the Sonic game main series continuity because it's events are referenced in the other games. Sonic Spinball is not canon because of 16 Blue Chaos Emeralds and because of dictations given during it's development that it could not be canon to the rest of the games.

Continuity - Can mean two things; 1 - A distinct universe with it's own distinct and unique timeline, events and characters. For example, the Sonic X continuity is separate from all other Sonic continuities. It has it's own versions of the characters, it's own timeline and it's own settings COMPLETELY DISTINCT AND SEPARATE FROM THE GAMES. The Archie Sonic continuity is separate from all other continuities with it's own characters, timeline, alternate universes and events COMPLETELY DISTINCT AND SEPARATE FROM THE GAMES. This is proven by a paragraph at the beginning of practically every story in the comic outright stating that Mobius Prime is a world very distinct and different from the one you know in the SEGA games. and 2 - Continuity stands for the sequence of events counted to be canonical in a fictional universe.

SEGA-Canon - A term used to describe Sonic videogames developed by SEGA and the characters who are featured in them that are a part of canon Sonic games i.e SegaSonic is SEGA-Canon because he's the games incarnation, Archie Sonic is Archie-Canon because he's the comic's incarnation.

Got that straight? Good.

Game Amy Rose made her debut in the Mega CD videogame Sonic CD, released in September 1993. She was clearly inspired by the character of Amy Rose from Shogakukan's Sonic Manga, released in 1992 but they are not the same character. The Amy Rose I am talking about is strictly the games version. The Amy you see in Fleetway, Archie, and Sonic X ARE NOT THE SAME ENTITY AS THE GAMES VERSION OF AMY. They are their own distinct characters in their own distinct continuities and with distinct personalities and all of them are not one and the same. How would that make a lick of sense if they were? If you are so oblivious to the concept of different incarnations of characters distinct to each Sonic continuity and honestly believe that Fleetway Amy, X Amy and Archie Amy are concilable as all being one and the same despite having very different backstories and abilities and even personalities then you need to re-evaluate you common sense and grasp of logic.

Princess Sally Alicia Acorn (SatAM/Archie) also debuted in 1993. She was clearly inspired by Ricky the Squirrel who happened to be renamed "Sally Acorn" by SoA. Princess Sally Alicia Acorn is not the same character as Ricky/"Sally Acorn" in the games. The multiple Ricky's in the games, AoStH Sally (In the Christmas special episode) and Spinball Sally ARE NOT THE SAME ENTITY AS THE SATAM/ARCHIE VERSION OF SALLY. Ricky, AoStH Sally etc are their own distinct character's in their own distinct continuity with distinct backgrounds and distinct personalities. All of them are not one and the same. What lick of sense does that make if they were? If you seriously believe that SatAM Sally is one and the same as the MULTIPLE squirrels in the games and is identical to Fleetway Sally in some hilariously vain attempt to enforce that she came before Amy then you need to re-evaluate your common sense and grasp of logic.

She is also not Game/"SEGA"- Canon. Her cameo in Sonic Spinball is strictly NOT a part of Game Canon as Sonic Spinball was developed under the pretense that anything and everything about it would not contradict canon of the other games or affect the "main series" continuity, basically meaning it never happened in the 'main' continuity and therefore, Sally (As she is depicted on the first bonus table) does not exist in the game universe as she appeared in a non-canon game. Spinball's non-canonicity is proven even further (Aside from the limitations dictated by SEGA at the time regarding it's canonicity) by it's 16 Blue Chaos Emeralds and ginormous off-model Eggman. In the extremely early alpha stages of X-Treme's development when she was included? NON-CANON as that idea never ever made it past even the planning stage therefore having NO EFFECT on continuity in any way, shape or form.

Ricky is what ALL small brown squirrels are called in the Games. It isn't one Squirrel named "Ricky", all of them are named Ricky and there are far more than just one. "Ricky" is this species' name in the games. It's not the name of a singular squirrel or an "alternate name" for SatAM/Archie Sally.

If we are talking about which inspirations for Amy Rose and Sally Acorn came first then Sally's inspiration came first as Ricky the squirrel's debuted in the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog videogame. But that's all it was; An Inspiration. If we are talking about who came first out of Amy Rose (Game) and Sally Acorn (SatAM/Archie) as we know them today then Amy came first, as she was a character that existed during Sonic CD's development in early 1992 (CD and Sonic 2 were being developed at practically the same time by different development teams: STI or SEGA Technical Institute guided by Naka worked on Sonic 2 whilst Sonic Team Japan directed by Naoto Oshima developed CD and it came out later than 2 because it's development was delayed in the interests of getting Sonic 2 out first). Game Amy Rose as we know her today was conceptualized in 1992, that incarnation inspired by the Sonic Manga character of the same name.

All that ironed out, it's not as if character's predating other characters makes them superior. I don't care about 'seniority' and neither should you or anyone else because you should like characters for who they are, NOT for how long they've been around or because they predate other characters. There mere 'excuse' of date of debut is NO REASON WHATSOEVER to put character's on pedestals i.e Tails and Knuckles are not intrinsically superior to Shadow, Rouge or later-introduced characters by "merit" of being introduced before them. This stamp is just to iron-out some serious misconceptions regarding crossing continuities and characters that are not one and the same and have no true relation outside as serving as inspirations/an adaptation.

Amy is SEGA-Canon and came before Sally doesn't make her a better or more 'official' character than Sally, it's just a simple statement of fact. Likewise, Sally being in SatAM/Archie and coming after Amy doesn't make her inferior as SatAM/Archie are thoroughly official and SEGA-Approved and Amy being more 'senior' than her doesn't make her a worse character. Character seniority is such a WORTHLESS reason to prize Amy above Sally and/or look down on Sally :/

To elaborate; Sally is just as official as Amy. She is SEGA approved and she exists in the SatAM and Archie continuity, therefore SHE IS NOT UNOFFICIAL OR ANY LESS IMPORTANT THAN ANY OTHER CHARACTER. NOT BEING A GAME-CANON CHARACTER DOES NOT MAKE HER AN UNNOFFICIAL CHARACTER. IT SIMPLY MAKES HER A NON-GAME-CANON CHARACTER..

I'll also add that I do not disable comments on my deviations. You make a stupid comment that is inflammatory and shows that you didn't read and make sense of the artists comment? Your stupid/butthurt comment shall be preserved in all of it's lulzy glory for my future entertainment and for the entertainment of rational fans :laughing:.
